SharePoint Site Administration
Asked By boniG

Is there a discussion group for SharePoint Site Administrators? I am not
talking about Server Administration. I am talking about those staff who
reside in the business units and are responsible for administrating the
various sites for their business users. There are many times I have
questions concerning list permissions, library control, etc., that I cannot
find an answer to like for instance: what is the character limit for a list
field set to "mutliple lines of text"?

The maximum is a lot; I reading somewhere it is (2^30 - 1). This limit
is caused by the type of field definition in SQL Server. I do not have
any of this documentation at hand at the moment to check.
Do you have a particular reason to know the max beyond knowing it is a

I have users submitting narrative explanations to support their budget
requests in those fields and they like to get very wording when justifiying
their requests for funding. I just wanted to have an answer should they ask.
We could just go with - see how much it will take, and then stop right
before that.

Funding requests should be relatively short else they will not get read.
