SharePoint - MOSS 2007 as member server or domain controller
Asked By someon

I have set up a test server with MOSS 2007 windows server 2008 and sql server
2008.
I have joined the server to my domain and used only local administrator and
a domain admin account to install MOSS, when I do the actual install to our
server I will create the seperate user accounts.
When I open up the Central Administrator I am asked for logon credentials. I
f I try and open the SharedServices I am asked for credentials same thing for
my site Portal. I cannot open them with the Domain Admin account it will only
open with the local Administrator account.
My question is does my MOSS server have to be a DC or can it be a member
server? If it can be a member server how do I allow access the the Portal
without it asking for authenticated users to put in credentials.
Also is there more info on setting up MOSS 2007 on Server 2008 anywhere on
the Microsoft site or on the Web?
Thanks

First of all, SharePoint should always be installed on a member server and
not on a Domain Controller. For one thing, content deployment will not work
if Sharepoint is on a DC. When you install SharePoint, please use a special
account that you have created for this purpose, and do not use your domain
admin, local admin or any other built-in admin type account. The account you
use for the install must be a member of the local Administrators group on
the SharePoint server and must also have dbcreator and securityadmin rights
on your SQL server. Other than that, the account needs no special rights.
As for your prompting for credentials... welcome to IE security. This is
actually a function of the security zones within IE 6 and 7. To make the
prompts go away you have a couple of options, depending on the version of
the browser you are using. In IE7, simply add the sites to the Local
Intranet Zone. If you add them to the Trusted Zone, then you must also
modilfy the default settings for that zone to allow for pass-through
authentication for sites in the trusted zone. If you are using IE6, then
adding the sites to either the Trusted or Local Intranet zone is fine.
To install SharePoint onto Server 2008 you must use a slipstreamed version
of the source files that already contain SP1 for SharePoint. Other than
that, the process is the same.

Thanks for your reply. I have another question that I wanted to run past you
in hopes that you might have an answer to or at least a thought on.
I have a server with a 150 GB drive for the OS using server 2008. I also
have a terabyte mirrored set. I am going to use SQL 2008 for MOSS and I am
wondering if I should install it on the OS drive and put the databases on the
mirrored set or just install SQL 2008 directly on the mirror set. I also have
some other data bases that I want to move on to this installation once MOSS
is up and running.
Thanks

I always prefer putting the database on a seperate disk. That said, I feel
it is even more important to seperate the databases from the log files,
which you can't do, even with your setup, reasonably. So, given a choice,
I'd go with OS and SQL binaries on same platter, data on the mirror. It
would be real nice if you could add one more disk to handle the log files
though.

MOSS 2007 fails during full installation even id 27745 SharePoint We have SQL 2008 installed on separate machine but in same domain, installed all as per the instructions here http: / / blogs.msdn.com / sharepoint / using full installation. Started wizard, inserted sql server \ instance name, username / password, port number. It starts but hangs on second stage. Looks like something went wrong with creation AdminContent database. SQL Databases show following databases:Sharepoint_config and long one having Admin_content. Did I miss something making fresh installation? I've installed sharepoint 2007 before on other 2 machines (one for MOSSportal and second with SQL2008 with instance name everything went fine but now. . . . Using Sharepoint 2010 for data storage but still running full Access client with vba and normal forms SharePoint Some time ago, Albert Kallah wrote that with Access 2010 it was possible to store access 2010 data on Sharepoint 2010 but still run the Access client in windows much as a "normal" access client accessing the data on Sharepoint 2010. sits on SharePoint. You can also have the application sit on SharePoint and a copy gets pulled down sure local machine when you click on and on the SharePoint site, you will need access installed for this to occur. So, in this case we even replication via the internet. This seems much slicker. Again my interest is data on sharepoint 2010 and use normal windows / Access clients on each user's PC. I am not

MOSS 2007 & Databases! SharePoint Greetings, We have recently upgraded our SQL server we use for MOSS. I have successfully moved all content databases from one SQL server to another. Now I to move all "admin" type databases as well: 1) AdminContent 2) Config 3) Search 4) SharedServices Can I do this without a call to Microsoft? I looked for documentation, but some the content. Is there an official "This is how we do it?" Thank you, Gregory SharePoint Setup Discussions MOSS 2007 (1) Database (1) SharedServices (1) AdminContent (1) Galant (1) Serif (1) Greg (1) Sharepoint (1
