Hi

I want to save a site I have modified as a template but I get the above error.
What does this error mean and what can I do about it?

SPS 3.0 on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2, IIS 6.0.

What about yourself?

I'm not asking a question for which such knowledge might be necessary :)

There isn't anyway anything called SPS 3.0.

You either have WSS 3.0 (Windows SharePoint Services 3.0)
or MOSS 2007 (Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007)

(Your Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition includes WSS 2.0 on the
second CD but that's not much of a clue as you might not have installed it)

Maybe I'm over-reacting a bit, but you can't deduce which version of
SharePoint we're using from what I just wrote and the fact that this has been
posted on the SharePoint newsgroup, then I doubt you're going to be of much
help. Petty point-scoring over which TLA's the correct one (despite the fact
that either works perfectly well in the MS search engine) is hardly likely to
help the issue.

form of the version (MOSS 2007) that came after SharePoint Portal Server
2003 (SPS 2003) or is used by people who think it is the correct short
form of (Windows) SharePoint Services 3.0.

Hence my assumption that you are either running WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007.

As I said there is no such thing as SPS 3.0 so if you are neither
running WSS 3.0 nor MOSS 2007, what are you running?

No-one here wants to spend time in answering a question when assuming
one product only to be told that the person concerned has another
product to which their answer doesn't apply. Hence the continual request
from many people asking for the product being used by the questioner.

If we ever get a confirmation from you that you are running either WSS
3.0 or MOSS 2007 then I could point you at

http://www.asaris.de/sites/walsh/Lists/WSSv3%20FAQ/DispForm.aspx?ID=637

("Limits: Is there still a 10MB limit for templates?")

but this doesn't apply to the v2 products ....

We're running SharePoint Services 3.0.

We're running SharePoint Services 3.0. You can put 'Windows' before that if
you like, although I've yet to see a non-Windows version of Microsoft
SharePoint (or anyone refer to SharePoint Services 2007 as 'SharePoint 3.0'
for that matter).

You could, but it wouldn't answer the question I asked, viz:

('Failure decompressing data from a cabinet file') error."

If I'd tried to save a template that was just too large I'd expect to see
the "This site is too large to save as a template" error.

The current max-template-document-size limit on our SharePoint Server is
500MB.

When I try to save a template that was apparently larger than 10MB (and
about which SharePoint complained - hence the increase in the
max-template-document-size) I get the "Failure decompressing data from a
cabinet file" error.

What does this error mean (besides "SharePoint is having trouble
decompressing data from a cabinet file") and what can I do about it?
