SharePoint - SPD 2007 - Fails to convert list to XSLT View

SPD-2K7 seems to have a bug in the code that converts a standard
sharepoint list to an XSLT data view as the resulting XSLT stysheet
says there is a problem with a character in one of the names it
generates.

Here is how to replicate the problem:
1. Open any sharepoint site in Sharepoint Designer
2. Create a new, blank ASPX page
3. Insert a web part that is a *document library* (Shared Documents
will work)
4. Click on the little properties button for the web part and choose
5. (optional for simplification) Remove all of the fields
6. Add the "Edit (link to edit item)" field and hit OK
7. right click on the SharedDocuments web part and choose "Convert to
XSLT Data View"
8. after a few moments you will be presented with an error showing:
The web part does not have a valid XSLT stylesheet: Error: A name was
started with an invalid character."
9. If you convert the list to an XSLT Data View without adding the
Edit field, it will convert correctly.

It has to do with this line: <xsl:when test="ddwrt:IfHasRights(4)"><a
href="{$URL_Edit}?ID={@ID}"
onclick="STSNavigateWithCheckoutAlert(this.href,
'<xsl:choose><xsl:when test=" @CheckedOutUserId=""><xsl:value-
of select="ddwrt:ListProperty('ForceCheckout')" /></a></xsl:when>

... right before the @CheckedOutUserId.

I have tried to hack the XSLT. I can get the document to be "well-
formed", but no matter what I try, SharePoint still won't display
anything.

Any ideas?
Thanks.
