MOSS 2007 - My SharePoint Sites not updating

Asked By Doug

We just finished a migration to SharePoint 2007. I have explicitly
added our users to the XYZ Members of each site; however, the My
Links\My SharePoint Sites does not seem to be updating for users.
Neither does the link in Office 2007 applictions or the rollup part in
My Site.

Well, I should see it is not updating completely. It appears that 2
sites (out of ~20) seem to be working properly. I just can't figure
out why these two site memberships work fine, but the rest don't.

I figured this might be tied to search, so I have re-run a full crawl
but that made no difference.

Any ideas on what might be going on? Any background information on how
the My SharePoint Sites list is updated?

Thanks!

Doug

MOSS 2007 - My SharePoint Sites not updating

Well, I guess I did find one different between the group/site
memberships which work and those that don't. The sites that do work do
not have a description for the Member group. The sites that don't work
have the following description: Use this group to give people
contribute permissions to the SharePoint site: XYZ Site.

Now, I did redo the sites when setting up the server, and when I
recreated many of the sites I reused groups that were existing on the
server when setting up permissions. I guess somehow the groups on not
properly "connected" to their sites, except the two that work.

MOSS 2007 - My SharePoint Sites not updating

Fixed the problem.

I assume this was caused when I imported my sites from the development
environment, but to fix it I had to go to each site and remove the XYZ
Members' rights from the site. Then I when to Groups - Settings - Set
Up Group and created a "temp" group for the member/contributer group.
I then went back in and changed the member group back to the existing
XYZ Members group (and deleted the temp group).

Afterwards, it took some time for the My SharePoint Sites to update,
but it eventually worked.

Apparently running through these steps was enough to reset whatever was
broken.
