Hello!

Im currently running a project implementing an extranet portal for my
organisation based on sharepoint services 2.0 (3.0 in a later state).

Users will log on to our sharepoint portal where they get access to
sharepoint sites, exchange with owa, live communication web acces, streaming
media and java applications running on tomcat.

the first problem is the login prompt when opening office documents. i have
searched the net for answers but cant find a solution. anyone here know what
to do? is there any microsft-based solution? does third party web-sso
application such as OpenSSO solve the problem?

the second problem, or question.
sharepoint, exchange with owa and live communication web access share the
same active directory. does this automatically provide single sign-on for
these applications?

Do you have the answer? Please provide it!

I assume that you are using Office 2003. Unfortunately, Word and Excel 2003
don't directly accept credentials passed from SHAREPOINT and will always
re-authenticate. Not that this helps, but this is no longer true with Office
2007.

When your server and users are both in an intranet zone, you have setup
Integrated Windows Authentication (IWA) and your browser's user
authentication option is set to "automatic logon only in intranet zone", then
you avoid your problem. That is because when Office 2003 clients
re-authenticate, WINDOWS (not SharePoint) automatically passes the
credentials again.

For your circumstance, there is another way to instruct IE (not SharePoint)
to pass your SharePoint login credentials along: Make sure that the target
site is listed in your IE trusted sites, then set the User Authentical option
to "automatic logon with current user name and password". This stores your
credentials in a place that IE can then use to pass along to Office documents.

I am now testing WSS 3.0 with Form Authentication and AD Membership Provider.
I just got it working and using Office 2003 when user checks "Sign me in
automatically" they dont have to provide logon information when opening
office docs for editing. This because of the persistent cookie.

The next milestone is to create a user administration and self-signup .NET
Application. This can't be to hard.

I also have some custom webparts and themes that I need to apply to the new
WSS3 site.

Thank you for your answer anyway!

SharePoint Using Sharepoint 2010 for data storage but still running full Access client with vba and normal forms Kallah wrote that with Access 2010 it was possible to store access 2010 data on Sharepoint 2010 but still run the Access client in windows much as a "normal" access client, accessing the data on Sharepoint 2010. sits on SharePoint. You can also have the application sit on SharePoint and a copy gets pulled down sure local machine when you click on and on the SharePoint site, you will need access installed for this to occur. So, in this case we even replication via the internet. This seems much slicker. Again my interest is data on sharepoint 2010 and use normal windows / Access clients on each user's PC. I am not
