Hi,
My environment is WSS 3.0 on Windows server 2003.
I designed a sharepoint site with sharepoint designer and then generated the
solution with Sharepoint Solution generator.

Using Visual studio 2005, I compiled and deployed the solution on the web
server successfully. However I checked at this step the WSS log file and find
few errors:

w3wp.exe (0x0FA8) 0x12F8	Windows SharePoint Services
General 72l8	High VcomCache: Failed to QI for
interface IID
w3wp.exe (0x0FA8) 0x12F8	Windows SharePoint Services
General 72l9	Medium VcomCache: The QI failed,
retrying...
SPSolGen.exe (0x14F4) 0x0AEC	Windows SharePoint Services
General 8e25	Medium Failed to look up string with
key "XomlUrl", keyfile core.

Trying to customize the solution template I deployed from the SPWeb site I
received an "Unknown Error".
In the LOGS file an exception was generated:
....Failed to determine definition for features with ID....

Hi neocharlot,

From your description, you're encountering some error when try deploying a
solution(generated from an existing sharepoint site), correct?

According to the problem scenario you mentioned, I've performed some simple
tests on my side. Since my environment is WSS 3 + VS 2008, I used the VS
2008 wss3.0 extension to generate the site definition(the process remain
the same as VS 2005 extension). I've tried generating site definition from
a simple subsite and deploy it to a new WSS site. It seems there doesn't
report the same error as listed in the log entries you provided. Therefore,
I think the problem is likely specific to the certain site and the features
included in it. Have you tried the same process on a simplified site(or try
exclude some features when generate the site definition) to see whether the
behavior changes?

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng

Hi,

From a simple sharepoint web site, that is not customized with sharepoint
designer 2007 I did not encounter any errors at any step of the process I
described before.

However, for the web site I designed with sharepoint designer 2007 I checked
that 2 errors where generated when I generated the solution with the
sharepoint solution generator tool:

1-General 72l8	High VcomCache: Failed to QI for
interface IID...
2-General 8e25	Medium Failed to look up string with
key "XomlUrl", keyfile core.

I think that consequently to those errors I do not succed to customize the
solution I deployed (successfully).

I would to understand what is the meaning of this errors and how to correct
them ?

Thanks in advance

Hi neocharlot,

Thanks for your reply.

Based on some research on former issues, the "Failed to look up string with
key "XomlUrl", keyfile core" seems a common issue that may caused by some
string resource(used by a sharepoint object property not found). Sometimes,
some failed upgrade or patching which make some xml file got messed will
result to such problem.

As for the "VcomCache: Failed to QI for ..." error, the message itself
indicate that a certain COM interface is failed to be queried by the
service.

==========
1-General 72l8	High VcomCache: Failed to QI for
interface IID...
==========

does the log include the interface's name or guid? That will help idenitify
which COM interface is the service looking for.

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng

Thanks for your reply neocharlot,

I've searched this IID and found that this "VcomCache: Failed to QI for
interface IID = {BDEADF12-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F}" entry will occur
after there exists some other exception cause the wss process to recycle.
So for your case, this error entry may not indicate the exact problem in
the WSS service. Have you checked the eventlog to see whether there is any
log entry indicate the WSS service has terminated due to some certain
error?

Also, if the log file is not very large(no more than 1m), would you send
the WSS log file to me? You can reach me at the following address

\par Thanks for your reply neocharlot,
\par
\par I've searched this IID and found that this "VcomCache: Failed to QI for interface IID = \{BDEADF12-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F\}" entry will occur after there exists some other exception cause the wss process to recycle. So for your case, this error entry may not indicate the exact problem in the WSS service. Have you checked the eventlog to see whether there is any log entry indicate the WSS service has terminated due to some certain error?
\par
\par Also, if the log file is not very large(no more than 1m), would you send the WSS log file to me? You can reach me at the following address

Hi neocharlot,

As for the log, after some review and research, the only issues I've found
are about some certain resource(of different language/culture) not found.
And the COM interface may also vary depend on different scenario. So far it
will be a bit difficult to troubleshoot from the appearnce. Have you tried
attach debugger to the sharepoint worker process to see whether there is
any exception raised internally?

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng

Hi,
My environment is WSS 3.0 on Windows server 2003.
I designed a sharepoint site with sharepoint designer and then generated
the
solution with Sharepoint Solution generator.

Using Visual studio 2005, I compiled and deployed the solution on the web
server successfully. However I checked at this step the WSS log file and
find
few errors:

retrying...
SPSolGen.exe (0x14F4) 0x0AEC	Windows SharePoint Services

General 8e25	Medium Failed to look up string
with
key "XomlUrl", keyfile core.

Trying to customize the solution template I deployed from the SPWeb site I
received an "Unknown Error".
In the LOGS file an exception was generated:
...Failed to determine definition for features with ID....
...Failed to determine definition for features with ID....

.....Failed to apply template...............

Could someone help me please ?

Sharepoint / AD Group Permission Problem SharePoint We don't seem to have any consistency when applying permissions to AD groups for items within a sharepoint site, and particularly on Reporting Services reports (running in Sharepoint integrated mode). For example, if we create a report, and give an AD group permission is targeted to the AD group). To further confuse things, at some (seemingly random) stage, Sharepoint does seem to recognise that a new user has been added to the group, and I guess the question here is: What do I have to do to ensure that Sharepoint is recognizing changes to AD groups for permissions? A full profile import does not seem t know of anything else that could affect it? Thanks in advance for any assistance! SharePoint causing IIS problems and TFS installation SharePoint Ok basically my goal is to set up Team Foundation Server. So after having problems with getting it to work with SQL Server 2008 I get it to install SharePoint and that is where a whole lot of problems began. . .
