Had to rebuild my server from scratch hardware was too slow upgrade to
faster machine

After I got Windows 2003 server installed and SQL 2005 I installed
Sharepoint 3.0

I can not get on to the web site from my workstations or even the server

I can get to the admin pages from my pc or server

I get this error

HTTP/1.1 404 Connection: close Date: Fri, 20 Nov 2009 05:12:50 GMT Server:
Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices:
12.0.0.6219

This tells me access error i think but I do not remember where all to look
I tried to bring up the old server box but it has the same name as the new
one so I have to leave it off the net. and I can not get sharepoint to come
on it

So I need to start from scratch

Any ideas where to start thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,

What is the error that you get when you try to browse the site from
the server, can you also try and check whether the site comes up in
IIS console.
If not check if the app pools are runnings, ensure that the account
set on the identity tab on the app pool is correct. Check if you are
able to open Central admin site from the server or from IIS console.
If yes then create a new test web application and see whether it opens
up fine from the server and also from the client machine.

This should give you a good start to figure out whats going wrong.

Reply to this post with your findings and proper errors.

the site comes up in the iis console

The app pools are running and the account for the app pool is correct

I am going to have to take down this server since it has same name as my old
server then bring that server up on the domain and check all the settings.

I should have backed up the db then resstored it but sometimes that does not
work either

I believe it is a security error either in SQL 2005 or IIS

The old server was running SQL 2000

Thanks

Tom
