From what I have read so far, it seems that I should do these installs
as follows:
1. SP2
2. October CU
The WSS server (frontend) is presently at WSS 3.0 SP1, no CU updates
applied yet.
Thank you, Tom

Tom,
Correct that is the right approach, just make sure you install both the wss
and sharepoint service packs and CUs

Thank you Yury...
Do I also run the same updates on our backend SQL server, since it
also has SharePoint installed so we can use Reporting Services??
Thank you, Tom

Office SharePoint, Windows SharePoint and SharePoint Portal SharePoint Hi, I am a novice about SharePoint. Can anybody tell me if Office SharePoint, Windows SharePoint and SharePoint Portal are same thing? same server application? or what is the different among them? Thanks
