Lookup Frield Default Value

Asked By Alex Anderson

Hello Everyone,

I am using Sharepoint 2007 MOSS (with all the latest updates) and the issue
I am running up against is having my staff remember to pick the project name
when replying in a discussion board. I created a lookup column that is
pointing to a list within the same site that lists all current projects. The
issue is, some staff forget to select the projet name before submitting their
reply. What I do not understand is why is not Sharepoint setting the default
value of this lookup field when replying to a discussion item created
initially with the selection of this particular project? I did create a view
to sort by Project name of all the threaded discussions that belongs to that
project which can cause confusion because if nothing is selected under the
project drop down, the threaded response goes to a defaul blank project name.
If I have not articulated myself fully, please let me know and I will retirate.

Thank you
Alex Anderson

Go into your list properties and make the column a required field.

Go into your list properties and make the column a required field. This way
users will be unable to submit an item until the value is populated.
